Animo is an event management agency delivering inspirational conferences, corporate events and exhibitions. They asked me to come up with a brand concept for the Britannia Conference 2014.
Britannia Movers International is a highly successful international business providing shipping services for removal businesses. It is the largest business of its kind in the UK. Every year Britannia holds a conference where UK members and their overseas partners can get together and discover the latest plans for the company. It is a mix of fun activities and excursions plus more serious business sessions.
Animo wanted a concept for the event which would reflect both the island of Jersey and the venue – the historical Pomme D’Or Hotel. This theme would then be transferred onto brochures, menu, banner stand, and conference slide designs.
A popular holiday destination, Jersey has beautiful scenery, beaches and a wealth of history which inspired me to create a concept which drew from different parts of the travel experience – the holiday brochures, postcards home and scrapbook journals. A reminder that although part of the British Isles, Jersey is a long way from home!
The Britannia logo was transformed into an iconic stamp, and I used a ‘Britannia Conference 2014’ postmark as a watermark alongside this. The red and white airmail strip and dotted line created a framework which was easily transferrable to create clear consistency throughout each design piece.
The stunning photography (supplied by www.jersey.com) was featured as simple postcards and the handwritten notes which highlighted parts of the text complement this idea ,whilst also reflecting the personal touches of the conference. Animo are rigourous in ensuring that those attending are treated like VIPs, and each individual is made to feel special.
The menu design was more loosely based on the main brand. Animo had arranged to showcase local talent as part of the evening entertainment and wanted to bring a festival feel to the tables. Sitting alongside the glow-sticks, the neat A6 leaflets folded out to reveal a poster containing information on each of the acts. (Who knew Jersey was such a hot-bed of talent?) I referenced retro festival posters with a reduced ‘Basil Fry-friendly’ palette while boldly including enlarged postage stamp edges.
What the client said:
“I used Black Bee Creative to design a full conference branding package for me – this included a marketing brochure, banner stand, menus and PowerPoint slides. I was immediately impressed by how quickly Steph grasped our event concept, and by the range and quality of ideas that she presented in the initial stages. Amendments were made quickly and accurately, and the whole project resulted in an event which had a professional, consistent and creative brand running right through all aspects of it. We work with designers on a regular basis, but we have now come back to Black Bee for three different projects – I think that’s the highest recommendation we can provide.”
