Crafty Business Networking events continue to grow in size each month, with lots of new faces in attendance.
We started with tea and coffee and general chit-chat followed by 60 second introductions. I was a bit mean this month and brought a timer along to ensure that everyone kept it short! Although many of us don’t like speaking in public, it’s always interesting hearing what everyone does so I think it’s worth going out of your comfort zone for a bit. Well done to all the first timers – it does get easier with practice!
Some people brought examples of their businesses, including Norman who showed us his woodwork, Helen who brought along her portfolio of boudoir photography and Chaz who brought some ceramics.
Our speaker was Tracey Johnson, Sector Specialist Creative and Digital Industries at Barnsley Development Agency, who got my evening off to a lovely start by giving me a bunch of flowers!
Tracey began by telling us about her background as co-founder of the HIVE GALLERY, based at Elsecar Heritage Centre, her involvement with MADE NORTH and Sheffield Design Week, and then outlined for us her present role supporting local creative and digital businesses through Enterprising Barnsley, and how she and the Enterprising Barnsley team may be able to offer support. Tracey is a fountain of local business knowledge and also gave us a bit of an update on news such as the future plans for the Digital Media Centre.
Tracey is happy to lend an ear to local creative and digital businesses if you have any challenges you may need a helping hand with. She can often be found hanging out on Twitter @, but you can also email her firstname.lastname@example.org or phone on 01226 787520.
After pancakes and conversation the meeting officially finished at 8pm however, Greg from Oak Star (ever the accommodating host!) turned the music up and was happy for people to continue enjoying the great company and atmosphere afterwards.
I’d like to give a special mention to Sarah and Jason who are unlikely to make it next month as their baby is due. Good luck to you both! I’ll keep the group updated on baby White’s progress!
